Puamohala Kaholokula

Born and raised on the Garden Island of Kauai, Puamohala began her journey through hula at age 5. She first studied under the tutelage of renowned Kumu Hula Joseph Kahaulelio, Ku’ulei Punua, and Ed Collier. Puamohala would uniki under the direction of Kumu Hula Roselle Bailey of Halau Kahiko Halapa’i Hula Alapa’i in Kaumakani, Kaua’i.

In 1985, Puamohala began performing with Kauai’s own Na Kaholokula as the featured soloist in their dinner show at the Sheraton Coconut Beach Hotel. She would remain the featured dancer for the group for the next 20 years, establishing her as one of the best hula stylists from the island. Puamohala simultaneously started Halau Mohala O Ka Pua Hau Hele in Kapa’a, Kauai. She is a former lecturer at Kauai Community College in Hula and Chant, board member of Ka Imi Naauao O Hawaii Nei, an artisan with E Ala E Hawaiian Cultural Community Events, and currently reigns as the 2017 Lei Queen for the City and County of Honolulu.
